with the blue waters of Gaibsagar lake on one side and a cove of
private reserve forest on the other. Udai Bilas Palace is the
embodiment of the old world charm of princely India. It offers a
scenic location for rest and recreation.
This is an ideal paradise of unhurried hospitality from where to
explore birdlife and tribal life and experience a splendidly
romantic ambience for that very special honeymoon. Exquisite
rajput anchitechure, fine murals, miniature paintings and stone
carvings will delight the cultured traveller.
The History of Udai Bilas Palace, Dungarpur, Rajasthan dates
from the mid-19th century, when Maharawal Udai Singhji-II, a
great patron of art and architecture built a wing of bluish grey
local stone "Pareva" overlooking the lake and the "Ek Thambia
Mahal", featuring intricate sculptured pillars and panels,
ornate balconies, balustrades, bracketed windows, arches and
frieze of marble carvings, a veritable marvel of Rajput
architecture.
Dungarpur is full of surprises and promises to be a memorable
experience in your journey across India.

Hotel Udai Bilas Palace Reviews
Our two nights at Udai Bilas were wonderfully comfortable and
restful- this is a large deco palace facing a lovely lake, with
gardens, birds, an infinity pool - quite an atmisphere of peace
and a bygone time, though modern india intrudes if you look
across the lake and see the modern development of Dungarpur
town.
The rooms range widely in size, decor and location - its worth
looking at what is available before making a final decision -
the initial room we were put into was in an adjacent building,
not the palace proper, and felt more like a summer cottage than
a palace - after a request for a change and a bit of a tour, we
wound up in one of the huge suites, which included a trementous
room we did not need, because the seating area , the space and
the views over the lake were so charming. The room and bathroom
were very clean and well cared for and the grounds well
maintained.
Its difficult to gripe too much about such a charming place.
We found the dinner buffet to be average for such hotels - with
a few good dishes, but generally a lot of blandness geared to
the typical foreign tourist. Breakfast was the usual eggs, toast
and fruit,.
A must visit here is the Juna Mahal or old palace, requiring
purchase of a ticket at Udai Bilas and a ride up the hill - our
favorite palace visit in Rajasthan. - and had alone, with the
caretaker at our own leisurely pace. A beautiful side trip,
highly recommended. .
