Hotel Shikarbadi Reviews
It was an unlikely surprise at the end of a DIRT road! A large, clean,
well maintained, well manicured former hunting lodge of the Maharaja
of Udaipur! Our expectations were not very high when we turned off the
main road to follow a tiny metal sign that indicated we follow a
single lane dirt path. Soon we came upon a small airstrip, elegant
polo grounds, beautiful horses kept in immaculate corrals and many
attractive buildings. Immediately upon arrival staff was there to
assist with luggage and check-in. The grounds were well kept and the
rooms were very clean. Though not the latest in luxury, it has a
feeling of old world comfort. Our suite was very large and well
equipped for our family of five A large sitting room with two day-beds
that were converted at night, a massive bathroom with attached equally
large dressing room and a spacious bedroom with oversized king bed.
Our balcony overlooked the garden, pool and had all windows had lovely
vistas of the surrounding hills. The bathroom was very clean and
comfortable. Unfortunately, the shower was not every powerful but we
did have plenty of hot water. It was very cold at night and they were
unable to provide us with a heater. Apparently, they were all in use.
Extra blankets were provided
and service was prompt and polite. The location just a few miles
outside the center of town was extremely serene. We loved the quiet,
the abundance of wild life and the scenic setting. After dinner on our
first night, we walked up to our suite and found monkeys just a few
feet away from us! What a delight for the children. The breakfast
buffet was very generous and food was fairly good. They did try to
fulfill all of our special requests and even made a birthday cake for
my husband on short notice. The morning was lovely with a lone peacock
strolling nearby. Though the hotel was full -- we rarely saw anyone
else. If you are looking for a comfortable, serene setting this is the
place to go. We will surely return.
